NIFT has been granted statutory status under the act of Parliament of India in 2006, empowering the Institute to award degrees and other academic distinctions NIFT Act 2006 published in the Gazette of India on 14th July,2006 confers Statutory Status on NIFT.The Act came into effect from 1st April,2007.The President of India is the `Visitor` of the Institute under the Act. The Act empowersthe Institute to award degrees and other academic distinctions.NIFT will be the first premier Institute in the world to award its own Degrees in the field of fashion education.
